Dear Tom,

Thanks for the e-mail. My son's bridge (Olympus) came 5th place, he had a wonderful time and for sure he'll be back next year with a stronger bridge.
Thank you and regards.

Dear BBC 2009 organizers, volunteers and Judges,
Thank you so much for giving our children an opportunity to learn so many things from this bridge building experience. I never expected that it will be such a great experience for our kids.

We hope that our children will have an improved version of their bridge next year.

Thanks again for your wonderful service!

We will once again proudly hold our Bridge Building Competition for Scarborough students in grades 3-6 and grades 7-8 Here, students build bridges out of Popsicle sticks, and we get to break them! This is no small task as some of them are very strong. Last year, bridges were in the 1800N (185kg) area; which means they could hold three times my weight!

Over the years that this competition has run, The quality of the best bridges and their strength/weight ratio has consistently improved. The students are learning and getting better. One thing still puzzles me though; how do the junior grades often produce bridges that consistently do better than the seniors? Visit our website and look at the results we have measured over the years.

Prizes

Prizes for first, second, and third place bridges will be awarded in the following categories: Performance (bridge capacity divided by bridge weight); Judges' Score

Registration

To register, please fill in a registration form and email it to: bridge@peoscarborough.ca
The registration form, contest rules and other forms required for joining this event are available from the menu on the top right of this page. Please read the rules carefully.

Deadline for registration is Tuesday, February 3, 2009.
There is a limit to the number of teams based on the room capacity of 350 people. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Initially, entries will be limited to six teams per school, plus individually entered teams not associated with a school registration. If space permits, additional school teams will be selected from the waiting list.

Previous year's competitions reached their capacity limit and so some teams were disappointed.
Therefore, register all your teams early!

You can join us by volunteering for an exciting day of networking, learning, engineering, and bridge building fun. Volunteers are needed to handle over 350 students, teachers, and parents on the event day, including registration, computer entry, judging, ushering, bridge testing, and more. Hundreds of students, teachers, and parents and engineers will come to have fun and learn a little about engineering.
