First MathBall event for the young children was jointly organized by
•PEO Scarborough Chapter
•NSBE Toronto Alumni Extension
•The Josiah Lynch Community Organization
The name MathBall is coined from Mathletics and Basketball.
The event was designed to create a stimulating learning environment for the youth both "on and off the court".
The event took place on 5th December, 2009 at L'Amoreaux CI (Finch/Warden) for both boys and girls aged 11 to 13.
The children did a round of brain teasing mathematics questions and subsequently competed in basket ball game as teams. The results of both Mathletics and Basketball were considered to determine the winning team.
The questions for Mathletics were all related to sports and well suited for the standard of the children. The basketball courts were arranged very well with good illumination. Basketball referees and coach were all engineers.
During the Mathletics event, it was interesting to see teachers/parents also trying a hand at the questions and checking with the answers which are projected at end of time of the question.
